Wells Issued requisition) papers on: Montana's Mon-tana's Governor, papers- of a like nature na-ture from that State were served on him, Papero wore Issued yesterday by Gov. Wells on the Governor of Montana for tho arrest of one James T. Daly, who Is wanted by Sheriff Swapp of Kane county on the charge of rape. Dab-was Dab-was arrested In the Yellowstone park Monday. Sheriff Swapp's affidavit states that Daly, who is the traveling agent for some sewing machine, traveling travel-ing about from place to place by team, committed the crime on a young girl named Emily Young, aged 17 years, of Kanab, in Kane county. This happened on December 24, 1903. Daly took tho girl driving and gave her yome candy. In this candy were txjme knockout drops and she became unconscious. While unconscious, Daly took advantage of- hor and afterwards fled from the county. As. tho pursuit became warm ho crossed over into Idaho, where he was for a short time at tho town of St. Anthony, but that place got too warm for him and he took refuge ref-uge In tho Yellowstone pari:, where ho was working at the time of his arrest. Sheriff Robertson of Livingston, Mont, has him now in charge. Sheriff Swapp went to Montana last night and will bring the criminal back to Kanab. Deputy Sheriff John W. Kerr of Teton Te-ton county, Montana, arrived yeaterday in Salt Lake with requisition papers on Gov. Wells from' the Goernor of Montana for one Jack Payne, who Is wanted there for the crime of grand larceny. Payne was arrested by the Ogdcn police. The charge against him is that. In February, 1903, he left Teton Te-ton county for Canada with a number of horses which he had stolen from different ranches in that county. Two months later the stock inspector of the county went to Canada and found three head of tho stolon, horses which had been sold to various farmers hy Payne. |
