Oct, 29,-Leo Boyle of Payson, who was arrested about a month ago for holding up a Rio Grando conductor and given thirty days ln tho county Jail at Provo, and who was only released this afternoon, at onco proceeded to strengthen his title of "a bad man." Boyle, who had been drinking heavily all aftornoon, went into tho "Wllklrra & Homer saloon, right ln tho heart of town, and drew a rovolvor on John Homer, who was ln front of tho bar, and began to aburso him shamefully, demanding de-manding almost everything in tho houso. Homer protested his lnnoconco of any harm dono Boylo, ln fact. Insisting that he did not know him. Ed. Vincent, a nephew of Homer, was ln tho bar at tho tlmo and mado a remark, re-mark, and Boylo Immediately threatened to kill him unless ho got out of tho place at once, which ho quickly proceeded to do. Boylo, who had tils gun cocked all tho timo, rushed to tho back part of tho saloon sa-loon and tried to get out of tho building, but failed to do so. Then ho backed out of tho front door of tho saloon, still covering cover-ing Homer with tho gun. Next ho proceeded to tho Now Wilson saloon, two doors up tho streot Meanwhile Mean-while somo ono had notified tho Sheriff's office that no policeman could bo found, and Deputy Sheriff Barnett at once went to tho scene. Tho deputy, not dreaming of a r,eally desperate man, wont Into tho saloon sa-loon where Boylo, was without drawing his gun and was Immediately covered by tho desperado, who ordered him behind one of tho billiard tables whllo ho proceeded to escaoo. Barnott plucklly held his ground and enmo mighty near being shot, as Boylo, who had a gTudgo against him, was looking look-ing for tho deputy at tho time with tho intention of doing him bodily harm. Boylo backed out of tho Baloon, whero Ted "Vllkln3 was standing on tho pavement pave-ment with his gun drawn, and Boylo walked right Into his nrms. "Wllklns threw Boylo to tho ground, but loBt his gun ln tho scufflo. Boylo did his best to shoot his captor, ono shot carrying his hat off. Tho deputy, who had followed Boylo, wrestod tho gun from Boyle, put tho handcuffs hand-cuffs on him and took him to jail. An Immenso crowd collected and tho affair af-fair has stirred up the town. Marlon M. Johnson of Sprlngvillo was tried thl3 morning before Judge Booth on account of his sanity. Ho was consigned to tho Stato montal hospital. Russell Lewis, wlfo of tho pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church of Provo. died last evening of consumption of the lungs. The deceased was born in Delaware, O., twenty-nine years ago, was married to the Rev. Charles H. Lewis last December, and camo to Provd last July. Mrs. Lewis suffered from tuberculosis beforo sho camo tq Provo, and It was hoped that the change of cllmato would restore her to health. Hor mother came from Ohio two months ago and has been nursing her daughter since. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis havo mado many friends slnco they came to Provo, and all feel that hor loss will be deeply felt The funeral services will bo hold tomorrow at the Methodist church, at 2 o'clock. 6 Tho trustees and principals of Utah county public schools met this morning at tho Parker school.
