Show Region 5 Wrestling Meet At West By DAVE WIGHAM SALT LAKE CITY Region Re-gion Five will hold their annual wrestling tournament at West High School this Wednesday and Thursday with the finals being slated for 7 p.m. on Thursday. Feb. 5. IF ONE GOES by dual meet standings then the host Panthers Panth-ers will be favorites for the team title but several coaches believe it could come down to the wires with several teams having a good shot at the team crown. Here is how the coaches see the individual matchups according to their seeding ' meeting: 98: PAUL Lucero of West is 2-0 in region and is seeded number one with Vince Kana-gagae Kana-gagae the number two seed. Chris Hansen of Viewmont is back following an injury and could very well win this class if his arm holds up. 105: Andy Gonazales of West is tops with Viewmont's Dave Blauer ranked second. These two should meet in the finals. 112: GLEN Watoniki of West is a strong favorite with Dan Morrill of Viewmont rated second. 119: Kevin Ball of Viewmont View-mont is considered best at this weight with Bountiful looking to Dave Merrill. Ball won their dual meet 5-0. 126: RON JERON of West is undefeated in region meets while Todd Schwendimen of ' Woods Cross only has one loss. This could be a great battle bat-tle in the finals. 132: Rick Evansof Highland is ranked first but Bountiful feels Chris Merrill could pull off the upset. 138: MIKE McFarlane of Highland and Richard Hatch of Woods Cross each beat each other this year and will probably prob-ably meet in the finals. 145: This could be the mystery mys-tery class. Gordon Peck of Woods Cross is ranked first. Lane Palmer of Highland is second but folks say not to count out Rex Remigi of Bountiful Boun-tiful or Brian Spencer of Viewmont. View-mont. 155: JODI NemelkaofWest is solid in this weight but Alan Schwabb of Bountiful could cause problems. 167: Todd Larkin of Viewmont View-mont won the region outright in dual meets with his biggest threat coming from Bounti-ful's Bounti-ful's Chris Badger. 185: ROB EGGETT of Bountiful is strong with Aaron VanDuren ranked second and Craig Roberts of Viewmont third. Hwt: Keith Hoigreen of Woods Cross won all his dual meets with second place up for grabs between Mark Blosch of West and Dave Smith of Bountiful. |
