Hwt: Big James Suitt of Layton is undefeated in league this year and a favorite in the big guy event with Ron Elwood (13-5) of Sky View and Mark Eggington or Roy right behind. SOME OF THE top grap-plers grap-plers in 4A will be in this meet. By DAVE WIGHAM LAYTON Layton's powerful wrestling team will ' n6sl the annual Region One tournament this Thursday. Sessions will begin at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and the finals at 6 p.m. COST FOR the event includes in-cludes a family pass for the entire en-tire event at $15, an individual tournament pass for $5.00 or tickets for each session will cost $2 for adults and $1 for students. Layton is the defending region re-gion champion and it is expected ex-pected for them to retain that crown. On that Lancer team are four wrestlers who placed in the state meet last year. BOTH LAYTON and Clearfield Clear-field have strong individuals in the tournament as well as well balanced teams. Here is how the coaches look at the individual weight classes for the region event, according to their seeding meeting and based on region dual meets: 98 LBS: Steve Uliberri of Clearfield is a strong contender, conten-der, he was second in region last year and then went on to place fifth at the state meet. This year he has posted, a J.6-1 record. ' 105: Clearfield is strong here also with sophomore We , Mulenz who has posted a 14-3 record. 112: AGAIN the Falcons are favored in this classification with Manuel Perez who was third in the region last year. However, Layton looks to Robbie Zamora, previous reg. champ and fifth in state. 1 19: This could turn into one of the best weights in the tournament tour-nament with three schools given a shot at the title. Sky View will look to Blaine Lind-ley, Lind-ley, who is defending region champ and a second place state finisher, while Weber has Bart Bushman (16-6) and Clearfield has Cliff Vaterlaus (14-5-1). 126: ROY has the favorite in this weight with Bruce Odow who is a previous region placer. He is undefeated in region re-gion meets this year, sporting a" 19-2 record. 132: Layton comes into this area w ith undefeated, in league matches, Mike Cabrey who is the odds on favorite. |
