Show Reqion 5 Mniim. mm Lead J to the Rams by one point in overtime and they are another club that sits one game in front of them in the race for state. 1HE FRONT line of the Rams caused problems for Bountiful, so big people like Bell. Mike Woodbury and Richie Veigth will need to work hard under the bucket. By DAVE WIGHAM BOUNTIFUL Now the fun really starts in Region Five. This is the time of the season where the teams start to go after those state tournament tourna-ment berths and there are five squads Fighting for four spots. ACTUALLY YOU could say that there are four teams fighting fight-ing for three spots since it's obvious that no one is going to catch the View mont team. The Vikings hold a three game edge over the field with only four games remaining on their schedule. sche-dule. But then the fun starts with Woods Cross. Bountiful. West and Highland looking for the other three state invitations. invita-tions. Bountiful Coach Mike Hall summed it up best. "You have to Figure that Viewmont is going to beat everyone else in the league. That means the others will knock each other off. If someone can knock off the Vikes they'll get in the tournament but that's easier said than done." NEXT UP FOR those Vikings Vik-ings is West on Friday followed fol-lowed by a Tuesday date w ith Woods Cross. The Vikes head into the Panthers den this Friday Fri-day for an afternoon game and they figure to get all they can handle from West. In their first meeting, the Vikes came away with a 48-44 win but the game v.asn't decided de-cided until the fin iinutes of the contest. West though has dropped their last two games and are struggling to find the win column. NORM PARRISH continues to lead the Vikings in scoring with a 20.6 average but it has been the play of junior John White that has opposing coaches worried. In his last two out ings the 6'H" center has scored 48 points Coach Ron Johansen has also been pleased with the play of Guy Zwahlen and Jon Cox. "People don't realise how important im-portant Guy is to our club. He handles the ball and gets it into the hands of our shooters." White is now averaging 15 a game with Kyle Morrell at 12.1 points per outing. THEN ON Tuesday the Vikings Vik-ings host the red hot Wildcats of Woods Cross. The Cats have won three straight, two on the road, and have found the form that many coaches felt they had at the start of the season. Richard Johnson and Wes Johnson have come on strong lately and Tom Clay played extremely ex-tremely well last week scoring 15 in the win over South. The best matchup of the game will be in the middle with White and Johnson. BEFORE THE Vikings though the Cats face a big game Friday when they travel up to play Bountiful. The Cats sit in the region with a 3-3 mark with Bountiful right behind at 2-4. Bountiful needs the win to pull even in the chase for state while a Wildcat win would almost bury the Braves. The Braves won the First meeting but have lost three of their last four games while the Cats have gone on a winning spree. Junior Danny Bell is the main man for the Braves and he'll draw special attention from the Cats. DANNY IS is scoring 20.6 points per league outing while Kevin Nitzel leads the Cats with a 16.6 average. Senior Terry Ferrcll is playing great ball for the Braves while sophomore soph-omore Blake Izatt had a great showing in his first start against Viewmont scoring II points. Following the Wildcat game the Braves have to travel to Highland for a Tuesday battle with the Rams. Bountiful lost |
