I i I : 1 N ' If " j VICA SHOIV CLASS Preparation for the 1979 United States Skill Olympics (USSO) began in Davis County with (he Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA) skill and leadership composition held on April 4 and 5 at Layton High School. THE ANNUAL VICA competitions involve all high schools in Davis School district. dis-trict. The students from these schools compete in two major areas of competition, skill and leadership. Skill competitions include completion in drafting, auto mechanics, commercial art, graphic art, carpentry, electronics, elec-tronics, bricklaying and other skill area. Leadership competitions include skills in prepared speech, extemp speech, job interview, parliamentary procedure and opening closing ceremony. AS USUAL Bountiful High School represented itself very well. With fourteen people actively involved BHS received 10 awards (medals, gold, silver and bronze). BHS VICA club will be represented by 15 plus students and advisor ad-visor at the up-coming state VICA convention. Competing in the skill Olympics are the following people: architecture, Layne Brown, 2nd place; Sam Kuan, 3rd place; machine drafting, Rick Jensen, 2nd place; Brian Purvis, 3rd place; commercial commer-cial art, Jacquilne McArthur, Membersof the Bountiful High VICA show class include, front 1 to r, Mike Shaw, Jeff Polowsky, Brian Purvis. Back, Mel Brysom (advisor), (ad-visor), Gwyn Richardson, Mitch Dalby, Sam Kuan, Ann Vanden-berg, Vanden-berg, Layne Brown, Rick Jensen, Amy Vandenberg, Jeff Hickman, Becky Byrd, Joe Osborne (advisor). Not in picture, Kevin Diamond, Jacqueleen McArthur and Ward Witt. 2nd place; auto mechanics. Ward Witt, 2nd place; Mitch Dalby, 3rd place. IN LEADERSHIP, the club placed extremely high all the way around. In a prepared speech. Jeff Hickman placed first. Extemporaneous speaker Jeff Palbwski placed first, and Bountiful High's opening and closing ceremony team consisting of seven membersLayne Brown, Rick Jensen, Sam Kuan, Gwyn Richardson, Ann and Amy Vanderberg and Mike Shaki, came home as number one in the district. On April 18 and 19, the VICA Club will compete at state and is expected to do well. |
