Show FARMINGTON Approximately 1,200 jobs will be filled by teenagers at the Lagoon resort, according to Peter Freed, president of Lagoon Corporation. HE SAID that most of the 800 jobs held by teenagers and young men and women last year will be replaced by new personnel this year, plus about 400 new job openings will be filled. "And since we have a great deal of turnover for various reasons, the total number of young people employed during dur-ing the season will be close to 2,000," said Mr. Freed. HE NOTED that in past years up to 1,400 teenagers and college students have been employed annually by the Lagoon as ride managers, selling food, working in maintenance, and a variety of different types of jobs. "Most of our employees are 16 years or older but we do hire some 14 and 15 year olds," he said. 'These people, however, have specific working conditions while employees 18 or over have no restrictions under the Federal Wage and Hour Law." HE SAID the resort will be open weekends until Memorial Day, May 28. After that. Lagoon will be open daily until Labor Day, Sept. 3. Following Labor Day, Lagoon will again revert to being open only on weekends as long as weather permits. Pioneer Village will open at 10 a.m. and the amusement park will open at 11 a.m. and the park will remain open until the crowds thin, sometimes some-times after midnight, Mr.. Freed explained, grb |
