Roy is next in line with a 3-2 region mark followed by Weber at 1-3 and .Layton with Sky View both at 0-4. Bountiful had a rough time this past week as they began slowly against the Bobcats of 1 Sky View and finally pulled out a thrilling 10-9 victory on the new Brave diamond. BOUNTIFUL coach, Phil Olson, threw three pitchers at the hard hitting Cache Valley 1 crew with Lynn Muir start-' start-' ! ing. Kevin Kott throwing in the middle innings and Baline Benard picking up his first pitching win. Both teams hit well during the game but in the eighth inning junior Mike Haslam drove in the winning run with a single. Then in a makeup game the Braves only used one pitcher, senior Wendell Hintze to beat a stubborn Roy club 6-5. In that game the Braves picked up 13 hits, the game would have been a route but the Royals gunned down three Bountiful runners at home plate during the contest. CLEARFIELD stayed in the race on the arm and bat of Brad Muir. All Brad did was throw a one hitter at Weber and hit a double and triple in leading the Falcons to a wild 12-3 win. Besides Muir, the Clearfield club also got hits from Doug Hamblin, a double and triple, and three safeties from Phil Garrett. Viewmont actually caused the logjam in the packs they handed the Lakers of Bonneville, their first league loss of the year. Kelly Downs, one of the premiere pitchers in the league, handcuffed the Lakers as the Vikes came away with a 3-2 victory. Buzz Neilsen, Mike Barnett and Mike Cook led the hitting for the Vikings with two hits each while Downs limited the Lakers to six hits. LAYTON. WHICH already has lost more one-run games than anyone in history, dropped another heart-breaker heart-breaker to Roy this time 6-5 in extra innings. Jim McGuire led the Lancers with two hits including a triple. Over in Region Four the weather people were the winners in a couple of games as the match ups between Ben Lomond and South along with Davis and Bear River were never played because of wet grounds. BOX ELDER upped its league mark to 4-1 as the Bees handed Woods Cross a 3-1 setback. The loss put the Cats at 1-3 in league action. Dave Draper went the distance for the Cats and only gave up three hits but two of them were long balls. Ogden stayed close as the Tigers upped their record to 3-2 with a 14-1 thumping to Logan, who fell to 2-3. |
