He wrote 27-comedies, 27-comedies, dramas and musicals, as well as many musical revues. He created the music and lyrics for all his shows. He also produced a novel and appeared in night clubs and in motion pictures. HIS MOST famous works include "Blithe Spirit,' "Private Lives" and "Brief Encounter." A favorite target of his sophisticated, irreverent and often impish writing was the foibles of British society, especially among the upper class. "Oh Coward!" was created by Roderick Cook in 1970, the "Oh Coward," which combines some of Noel Coward's wittiest songs and sketches, will be presented Thursday evening at the Bountiful Community Church. Among those taking part are, 1 to r, Michael Blazina, John Rust and Ryan Johnson. year Coward was knighted. All of the material in the musical comedy revue is taken from Coward's many works. THE U OF U production of "Oh Coward!" premiered last fall and was chosen by the theatre department to be the university's entry in the Utah Theatre Festival at Weber State College last March. It is directed and choreographed by E. Scott Wells, a master's degree candidate in musical theatre direction at the university. His direction credits at the. university include produc tions of Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night" and "The Fantasticks." As an actor he has appeared in numerous Pioneer Memorial Theatre productions including "Camelot," "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" and Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" this season. MUSICAL DIRECTOR of "Oh Coward!" is Ren Ander-ton, Ander-ton, accompanist to the U of U Opera Workshop and a professional pianist. Costumes Cos-tumes and settings were designed by Amy Kipp. Timothy P. Hansen is lighting designer. The cast includes Susan B. Peters, Anne Wetzel, Michael A. Blazina, Ryan N. Johnson and John Rust. All five appeared ap-peared in "Camelot" at PMT this season. MISS PETERS appeared in "A Little Night Music" in the Babcock Theatre. Miss Wetzel, Wet-zel, Mr. Blazina and Mr. Johnson all played in "Romeo and Juliet" at PMT. Mr. Johnson, Mr. Blazina, Mr. Rust and Miss Wetzel played in "How to Succeed in Business" on the PMT Lees Main Stage. |
