The forces of the provisional government gov-ernment of Haiti, commanded by the war minister, General Nord, have sustained sus-tained a severe defeat at Llmbe. Gen- ' fiat Nord, at tho head of 3,000 men, 'i attacked Llmbe at 0 o'clock on the morning of the 17lh, and after desperate desper-ate fighting lasting three hours the general abandoned his position, guns and war amunitlons, and left a great number of dead and wounded, including includ-ing several generals, on the field. Tho population of Cape Haitian is in a slate of anxiety. The enemy to the number of 4,000 well-armed men Is advancing on the place. Another battle beforo the town Is Imminent. |
