Show Of Interest to Teachers. Logan, Utah, Sept. 20, 11102. Dear Friend: This j ear the meeting of the Utah State Teachers' Association will be held In Salt Lake City, on the 7th, 8th, Oth, and 10th of October. The pleasant time of the year, the State Fair, the General Conference of the Mormon people, and tho low lallroad rates all combine to make the early part of October a much more desirable time than the Christmas holidays for the teachers to meet in their State Association. It Is expected that all the teachers and the school officers will do all In their power to make this j car's meeting meet-ing the most successful ever held In the state. No clTort has been spared by the officers of the Association to secure the best talent in the western world. Dr. Hughes, the inspector of the Canadian schools, will be present, and it is expected that the United States Commissioner of Education, Hon. Wm. T. Harris, will be here to open by an address on Monday night, October Oth. In our opinion It would be well for your schools to close during the week beginning October 5th. We would suggest that this week take the place of the visiting days provided for by law; and that salaries of teachers who attend the Convention be continued the same as if tho schools were in session. ses-sion. Greater benefit will come to your schools for the reason that the work of the association this year is carefully graded to reach every department depart-ment of school room work. The teachers w ill visit the Salt Lake City schools during the forenoons of Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. On afternoons of these days, they will meet )n the rooms that thev have visited, vis-ited, and, under a skillfull leader, discuss dis-cuss the work which they observed. Lcctuies will bo given to the teachers and to the public on the nights of Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday Thurs-day and Friday; and Friday as a whole will be devoted to institute work. Arrangements have been for a meeting meet-ing of the school trustees. Wc hone therefore that wo may be successful in having one member, at least, from eacli 'Chool board in tho county attend at-tend the convention. Very respectfully, A. C. Nkujon, State Supt. of Public Instruction. G. M. Thomas, t County Supt. |
