With more archers in the field than ever before, Division Chief of Law Enforcement Jim Ware cautions hunters to remember several hunting regulations. "Wherever they go or whatever they do, archers should not possess any type of firearms," emphasizes Ware. The proclamation states, "It shall be unlawful for any person who has obtained ob-tained a deer or elk permit to have in his possession, camp, vehicle, or otherwise be in control of any type of firearm while on an area open to archery ar-chery hunting during the archery season." Ware also warns about hunting after dark with spotlights, and mentions the dangers of road hunting. Shooting from a vehicle is prohibited. Legal archery equipment must have ' a minimum 40 pound pull at archer's draw. Arrowheads must have two or more sharp cutting edges and not be capable of passing through a -inch ring. An important regulation is the proper tagging of an animal, including notching not-ching the correct month, day and sex of the animal on the tag. Hunters should refer to their proclamation for regulations on several areas closed to archery hunting in the southern part of the state. Ware encourages archers to police their own ranks, thereby helping the resource and Division. Poaching or illegal activities should be reported to a Division officer immediately. |
