Show (Manila .Clara ftokunson Phone 784-3463 M Forest fires in Manila area More forest fires have broken out in the area. Sunday afternoon, Ashley Forest men, retardant bombers and helicopter were called out to assist the Bureau of Land Management ex-. ex-. tinguish a fire in the West Springs area on the east side of the river. The fire was in Wyoming and threatened the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Radosevich. It was stopped at the road however. This is said to be a heavily cedared area. Another fire was in the same area but was smaller and burned itself out. Last week a fire burned 250 acres in the Long's Park Reservoir area. Descendants of Winifred and Delma Long reunion was held Saturday, Aug. 3, at the Merkley Orchard in Dry Fork Canyon near Vernal. There were 7 of the 8 children of the Winfred Long chidren in attandance. A kitchen shower was given by the women during the reunion for the bride to be, Wendi Christiansen, who is soon to be the bride of Devan Long, son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Long of Manila area. Those attending from Manila were Mr. and Mrs. Norman Long, their daughter Mrs. Jana Tinker and three children, their daughter Mrs. Sheryl Collete and 2 children of Dutch John, their son Devan Long and his fiancee, Wendi Christiansen. The Briggs reunion was held in Beaver, Utah Saturday. There were approximately 100 persons in attendance. at-tendance. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Briggs received the prize for traveling the furthest. Gene Briggs was elected president of this family organization. Mrs. William M. Briggs is secretary. The next Briggs reunion will be in Manila in 2 years from now. Those attending at-tending from Manila were Mr. and Mrs. William Briggs, Sr. ; Mr. and Mrs. Gene Briggs; and Mr. and Mrs. William Briggs, Jr., and their 4 children. The Orvel Potter reunion was held this weekend at Hoopes Lake near Burnt Fork. All of the Orvel Potter children were in attendance and most of the grandchildren. There were 60 in attandance including some brothers and sisters of the Orvel Potters as well as their descendants. These reunions are always thoroughly enjoyed by the Orvel Potters, Pot-ters, their children and grandchildren with games, programs and food for all. The next one will be in 2 years from now. Children attending with their partners were Nelson Potter and his sister Mrs. Deward (Leah) Eades of Seattle, Wash.; Mrs. Rick (Carma) McDowell; and Mrs. Robert (Enid) Ferraud of Indio, Calif.; Mrs. Keith (Carol) Erickson and Mrs. Dennis (Sheryl) Woods of Lyman, Wyo.; Mrs. John (Shanna) Brandt of Casper, Wyo.; and Layne Potter and Mrs. John (Gail) Despain of Manila; and Mrs. Robert (Glenda) Bobek of Valentine, Neb. Mr. and Mrs. William Robinson returned Sunday evening from the Robinson-Osborn reunion held Saturday and Sunday in the Bear Canyon Campground in Nephi Canyon near Nephi, Utah. There were 65 persons in attendance including children at the reunion. Robinson's son Art Robinson of Rock Springs is president of the organization. The reunion is scheduled every first weekend in August. It is planned that it will be held the same place next year. This group is planning to publish a book on Jeremiah Lagdon Robinson and Mary Harriet Osborn Robinson and their descendants. Mrs. I.E. Ruble attended the Davis-Griffith Davis-Griffith reunion held in Pueblo, Colo., on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of this past week. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bobek and daughter Kathryn of Valentine, Neb., were in Manila for the family reunion of Mrs. Bobck's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Orvel Potter. While here they visited old friends. Weather in Manila has been hot and dry. There has been two small showers. One on July 29 and another on August 1 bringing .14 of an inch of moisture. A high wind Sunday afternoon did some damage to gardens and trees. Some limbs were broken off. the trees; corn was blown over; squash stalks broken. Mrs. Leon Jensen and small daughter are home in Manila again. They have been with Leon in Nevada where he is employed. Mrs. Jensen's brother Robert Ellsworth met her in Payson and brought her home with him. Recently a new roof was put on the Manila High School. Last week new gutters were put around the new roof. Henry Gutz who was injured in a car accident two weeks ago has been released from the Rock Springs, Wyoming hospital. |
