Show Cardio-Dial: Computerized Cardiovascular Risk Estimate Through a unique computerized com-puterized system, physicians may, in a matter of seconds, evaluate a patient's risk of developing serious cardiovascular cardio-vascular disease. There is no charge for Cardio-dial, an acronym for "Cardiovascular Disease Risk -Direct nfor-mation nfor-mation Access Line." The system involves a telephone hook-up to a computer com-puter located in Summit, N.J., headquarters of the Pharmaceuticals Division of CIBA-GEIGY, developers of . the system. During a routine office visit, the physician records seven of the major "risk factors": notes the patient's age, sex, if cigarettes are smoked, systolic blood pressure, pres-sure, serum cholesterol, if glucose tolerance is present and if the left ventricle of the heart is enlarged. The physician then dials the toll-free number and provides the information to the operator about the anonymous patient. The doctor is able to tell the patient immediately what the risks are of developing develop-ing serious cardiovascular complications. Cardio-Dial is particularly particular-ly valuable to motivate the patient to stay on a prescribed pre-scribed regimen and perhaps remove some of the risk factors, thus improving the risk ratio. CIBA-GEIGY, originator of Cardio-Dial, is a forerunner forerun-ner in the fight for health and well-being. The "company "com-pany also creates and manufactures manu-factures a wide variety of special purpose chemical products, dyestuffs, plastics and additives, agricultural and consumer products. |
