Vernal 6th eliminates Naples 1st Vernal 8th toppled Davis 1st in the first round and Maeser 2nd downed Naples 1st. Maeser 3rd downed Glines 1st and Vernal 6th toppled Glines 2nd, July 30. Four games were played on Thursday. Thurs-day. Vernal 8th toppled Maeser 2nd and Vernal 6th downed Maeser 3rd. Naples 1st downed Davis 1st and Glines 2nd defeated Glines 1st in consolation games. Naples 1st toppled Maeser 3rd and Glines 2nd downed Maeser 2nd in second round consolation contests. Vernal 8th toppled Vernal 6th, 10 to 3, in order to advance into the championship champion-ship game. Vernal 8th jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning on runs by Rod Anderson, Kyle Reynolds, Dave Emery, Burke Buckalew and Brent Hales. Jeff Good, Kevin Campbell and - Neldon Seitz scored counters in the third inning to cut Vernal 8th's lead to 5 to 3, but Vernal 8th scored three runs in the fifth on counters by Dave Emery, Burke Buckalew and Art Daley and added ad-ded two more counters in the sixth inning inn-ing on runs by Rod Anderson and Dave Emery to make the final score: Vernal 8th, 10 and Vernal 6th, 3. Dave Emery had a home run for Vernal 8th in the sixth inning. Naples 1st defeated Glines 2nd in the consolation bracket and Vernal 6th toppled top-pled Naples 1st in order to advance into the championship game against Vernal 8th. Vernal 8th, the returning area sportsmanship team, will compete in the Area Tournament in Spanish Fork, August 15 and 16. Vernal 6th will also take part in the tournament. |
