Show Verne I B$fo dlowras &flh Word tfor junior rfQ Vernal 8th pocketed its second straight LDS Regional Junior Softball Tournament championship when they toppled Vernal 6th, 9 to 4, Saturday. Vernal 8th finished with an undefeated record of 4 wins and 0 losses. The first batter up, Rod Anderson of Vernal 8th, connected with the softball and advanced to second base on an error. Marty McCarrel smashed the ball for a single, which drove in Rod Anderson for a 1-0 Vernal 8th lead. Dave Emery gave Vernal 8th a 3-0 lead when he attacked the softball and sent it over the fence for a two-run homer. Burke Buckalew doubled and Art Daley flied out for the first out. Clark Emergy was walked and Kyle Reynolds got on base on a fielder's choice. Buckalew was tagged out a third base and Brent Hales committed the final out on a pop fly. Vernal 8th had a 3-0 lead after one inning, but members of the Vernal 6th team weren't ready to roll over and die. Jeff Good, the first batter up, connected with the softball for a double and Gordon Seitz was walked. Raymond Perry flied out, but he advanced Jeff Good to third base. The ball got away from one of the Vernal 8th players and Jeff Good smashed into catcher, Jeff Robbins at home plate and scored Vernal 6th's first run of the game. Gordon Seitz moved to second base and crossed home plate on a bad throw to first base. The score at the end of the first inning was Vernal 8th, 3 and Vernal 6th, 2. The Vernal 8th softballers increased their lead to five runs at 7 to 2 with four funs in the top of the second inning. Brad Shaef ermeyer led off with a single and moved to second base on a single by Rod Anderson. Marty McCarrel flied out and Dave Emery stroked the ball for a single to drive in Schaefer-meyer, Schaefer-meyer, with Vernal 8th's fourth run. Burke Buckalew drilled the softball over the left field fence for a three-run homer, which knocked in Rod Anderson and Dave Emery and gave Vernal 8th a 7 to 2 lead. Vernal 6th was blanked in the bottom of the second inning and Vernal 8th was shutout in the top of the third, but Vernal 6th scored one run in the bottom of the third inning to cut Vernal 8th 's lead to 7 to 3. Jeff Good hit the softball and advanced to second base on an error. Good moved to third base on a fly ball by Nelson Seitz and crossed home plate on a single by Gordon Seitz. Jeff Robbins gained a single for Vernal 8th in the top of the fourth inning, in-ning, but Gordon Seitz nabbed a line drive by Rod Anderson and threw out Jeff Robbins at first base for a double play. Marty McCarrel hit the ball to Gordon Seitz for the third out. Mike Johnson flied out and Rod Hamson and Craig Good grounded out for Vernal 6th in the bottom of the fourth inning. Raymond Perry of Vernal 6th garnered all three Vernal 8th outs in the top of the fifth Dave Emery hit a fly ball and Perry nabbed it for out number one.
