Vernal 5th toppled Vernal 6th in the first senior championship game, 8 to 6, but Vernal 6th won the second game by the score of 23 to 8. U ojj m & ir y p ft d itd s3 e D 5 17 e it s 0"wrD ft eirmxai Mh Vernal 5th knocked off Vernal 6th, 8 to 6, in the first championship game, but Vernal 6th came roaring back as they won the second championship contest con-test in 'the LDS Regional Senior Softball Tournament by the score of 23 to 8, Saturday. The Vernal 5th team was blanked in the top of the first inning in the second encounter, but Vernal 6th erupted for five runs and a 5-0 lead at the end of the first inning. Tod Tesar was walked and moved to second base on a single by Dave King. A single by Tim King loaded up the bases. Arvel Tassainer reached first base on a fielder's choice as Billie Smith of Vernal 5th threw out Tod Tesar of Vernal 6th at home plate. Kent Bigelow singled and drove in Tim and Dave King for a 2-0 Vernal 6th lead. Porter Phillips knocked knock-ed in Arvel Tassainer and Kent Bigelow on a three-run homer, which gave Vernal Ver-nal 6th a 5-0 lead. Vernal 5th was shutout in the top of the second inning and Vernal 6th increased in-creased its lead to 9-0 with four runs in its half of the inning. Leo Jorgensen led off with a single, but was forced out at second base and Tod Tesar reached first base on a single. Dave King hit the softball and advanced to third base on an error and drove in Tesar for Vernal 6th's sixth run. Tim King smashed a double to knock in his father, Dave King. Arvel Tassainer drove in Tim King witha two-run homer, which gave Vernal 6th a 9 to 0 advantage. Vernal 6th continued its softball blasting exhibition in the bottom of the third inning as they scored four runs and netted a 13-0 advantage. Leo Jorgensen reached first place on an error er-ror and Tod Tesar singled. Dave King cleared the bases with a three-run homer, which drove in Jorgensen and Tesar. Arvel Tassainer gained a triple and Kent Bigelow sent Tassainer home due to a single, which gave Vernal 6th, a 13 to 0 lead. Five runs were scored by Vernal 6th in the bottom of the fourth inning. Greg Hawkins attacked the softball for a triple tri-ple and an error placed Ron Solomon-son Solomon-son on first base and drove in Hawkins. Solomonson advanced to third base and Jorgensen gained a sacrifice hit, which scored Solomonson. Tod Tesar reached first base on an error and Dave King smashed a double, which advanced Tesar to third base. Tim King gained first base on a low throw and Tesar crossed home plate. Arvel Tassainer connected for his second round tripper in the game as he drove in Dave and Tim King on a three-run homer. The score at the end of the fourth inning was: Vernal 6th, 19 and Vernal 5th. 0. Calvin Richens reached first base on a fielder's choice and a single by McCoy Preece placed Richens on second base. Dave Swett smashed a double, which drove in Calvin Richens with Vernal 5th's first run. Steve Stokes singled to knock in Preece, which made the score: Vernal 6th. 19 and Vernal 5th, 2. it' t A? Members of the team are: front row, left to right, Greg Hawkins, Tod Tesar, Dee Wilcox, Kent Bigelow, Tim King and back row, Porter Phillips, Dave King, Leo Jorgensen, Bishop Porter Phillips gained a double in the bottom of the fifth inning when the ball darted over the outfilder's head. A single by Dee Wilcox placed Porter Phillips on third base. Porter Phillips scored Vernal 6th's 20th run. Tod Tesar singled to drive in Wilcox and Dave King drilled the softball for a single and Jorgensen scored to make the score 22 to 2 in favor of Vernal 6th. Monty Lee connected with the soft-ball soft-ball for a double in the top of the sixth and Ben Lawson drilled a pitch by the Vernal 6th hurler for a two-run homer. Steve Judd singled and moved to third base. Calvin Richens advanced to first base on a low throw and Judd darted across home plate. McCoy Preece was walked and Richens moved to second base. Dave Swett hit a double to drive in Richens, which narrowed Vernal 6th's lead to 22 to 6. Vernal 6th added one more run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a home run by Porter Phillips. The homer by Phillips was his second circuit clout in the game. An error placed Karl Wright on first base and a single by Ben Lawson placed Wright on second base. Curg Belcher blasted the softball for double to send home Wright and Lawson, which made the final score: Vernal 6th, 23 and Vernal Ver-nal 5th, 8. Vernal 6th will take part in the LDS Area Senior Tournament, Friday and Saturday in Spanish Fork. Marland Stagg, Ron Solomonson, Arvel Tassainer, Tas-sainer, Ron Enloe and Scott Hymas.
