' ..- - RECOGNIZING VALUABLE uses of off-road vehicles, the BLM is seeking local input on the subject during public meetings. BLAA seeks talks with area ORV owners Proposed off-road vehicle travel restrictions will be the topic of a public meeting to be held Thursday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. by the Vernal District Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The BLM has been given the task, by Presidential order, of determining which lands under their jurisdiction will be designated open, closed, or limited to off-road vehicle (ORV) travel. The Vernal District has developed recommendations for these ORV travel designations in the Three Corners Planning Unit, encompassing the Brown's Park and Diamond Mountain areas. Proposed actions within the Three Corners Planning Unit are summarized as follows: (1) ORV travel along the Green River will be limited to designated roads and trails to reduce user conflicts; (2) travel will be limited to main roads during April and May for watershed protection and to reduce disturbances within antelope fawning areas; (3) certain roads and trails will be closed if they are causing soil erosion and are not needed; and (4) travel will be limited to existing roads and trails year-round to prevent further erosion problems. Public discussion of these recommendations recom-mendations for the Three Corners Planning unit is both needed and welcomed. The meeting will be at the Vernal District Office located at 170 South 500 East, Vernal. |
