Vernal 8th toppled Maeser VERNAL 8TH pocketed first place in the LDS Regional Co-ed Softball Tournament. Vernal Sflh'ccapflures first lace in co-ed fiournamen Vernal 8th garnered first place in the LDS Regional Co-ed Softball Tournament Tour-nament when they toppled Maeser 2nd, 25 to 10, Saturday. Rick Wallace had a home run in the game for Vernal 8th. A 22-9 win over Glines 1st advanced Vernal 8th into the championship game and Maeser 2nd reached the finals with an 11 to 10 come-from-behind victory over Glines 1st. Glines 1st jumped out to a 3 to 0 lead in the top of the first inning on runs by Kay Smuin, Gilroy and Smith, but Vernal 8th tied up the game at 3-3 with runs by Gerrie Buckalew, Rick Wallace and Ted Taylor in the bottom of the first inning. Glines scored five runs in the third inning for an 8 to 3 lead. Vernal 8th scored one run in the third inning, six in the fourth; and 12 runs in the sixth inning to win the contest with Glines 1st by the score of 22 to 9. Rick Wallace and Ted Taylor scored four runs in the game for Vernal 8th. Calvin Caldwell and Gerrie Buckalew scored three runs each for Vernal 8th. Maeser 2nd was one out away from losing its game with Glines 1st when Clark McClellan connected with the Softball for a three-run home, which fed up the game at 1-10 with two outs kSinAllen got on a base and scored the winning run on an error, which made the final score: Maeser 2nd L and Glines 1st, 10 and advanced Maeser 2nd into the championship game. Maeser 3rd toppled Naples 1st and Maeser 2nd downed Ashley and Maeser 2nd defeated Maeser 3rd in consolation games last week. Vernal 8th, the first placek.
