Ashman 12 to vie for SU crown The Miss SUSC Pageant will be tonight at Southern Utah State College. The winner of the local contest will represent SUSC at the Miss Utah Pageant in May, with the winner of that contest going on to compete for the title of Miss America. "Twelve coeds are vying for the Miss SUSC title," Lani Lingren, pageant chairwoman, said, "the criteria used or selecting the winner is the same as that in the Miss Utah Pageant, with the girls being judged on talent, personal interviews in-terviews with the contest judges, and on appearance ap-pearance in swimsuit and evening wear." The pageant will begin at 8 p.m. in the SUSC Auditorium. Coleen C. Smith, wife of SUSC education instructor Roger M. Smith, will serve as mistress of ceremonies. A $1 admission ad-mission fee will be charged. Each of the contestants will present her talent number and will appear in the evening gown portion of the contest that evening. The swimsuit competition and personal interviews will be held earlier, Lindgren said. Betty Rasmussen, Miss SUSC 1980, will crown the new Miss SUSC and her attendants. Rasmussen, Roosevelt, represented , SUSC last June in the ' Miss Utah Pageant. Miss SUSC, her two attendants, and Miss Talent will be selected by the five contest judges. Miss Congeniality will be selected by the contestants con-testants themselves. The 1981 SUSC pageant has been developed around the theme "springtime." Special musical numbers will be presented Sounds Unlimited, SUSC's musical ambassadors. The 12 pageant hopefuls include: Tracy A. Ashman, a sophomore communications com-munications major, education minor, from Prove Mary F. Bristol, a sophomore accounting major from Riverside, Calif. Nanette Dean, a 'freshman theatearts major from West Valley. Mara Lee Edgel, a senior business major, English minor, from Cedar City. Debbie Evans, a junior communications major, elementary education minor, irom Sandy. Linda Franson, a freshman elementary education major from Magna. Kari Jo Hardman, a freshman theater arts major, music minor, from Sandy. Heidi Mouritsen, a freshman elementary education major from West Valley. Janna L. Skinner, a freshman theater arts major, communications minor, from Ogden.
