Show Bike safety tips offered With more than 100 million bicycles in use in the United States, the Utah Safety Council recently offered several bicycle safety maintenance main-tenance tips. The tips are taken from the National Safety Council's "Bicycle Safety Maintenance Manual" to help kick off Bike Safety Week, Apr. 2026. The height of the saddle of the bike is very im portant for driving comfort, driving efficiency ef-ficiency and safety. As a minimum safety measure, the bicycle driver should be able to stand over the bicycle and have both feet flat on the ground. In addition, the following hints were given The handlebars of the bicycle should be tight and the handlebar should be properly aligned with the front wheel. To assure proper driving characteristics of the bicycle, the bicycle frame must be in proper alignment. The pedals should be firmly secured in the crank arms and the pedals should turn freely. To test bicycle wheels for trueness, lift the bicycle up and spin the wheel. The spinning bicycle wheel should not rub against any part of the frame or the brakes. --The bicycle wheel should not be missing any spokes and all of the spokes should have approximately ap-proximately the same degree of tightness. |
