Show SU enrollment up ,' I- Spring quarter enrollment at Southern Utah State College has soared to an all-time high, according to Sterling Church, dean of students at the school. Church said that 1,830 students are currently enrolled at the institution, compared with a previous high of 1745 for this particular quarter. Church deemed it significant because a reduction in enrollment had been predicted this quarter because of a tuition surcharge. , On a somewhat bleaker ' note, students at Southern Utah State next year will be hit with a substantial increase in tuition. It was announced that resident cost will increase in-crease 12.3 percent, from $154 to $173. Non-resident tuition will jump 18 percent, from $440 to $519. Fees will remain at the current level. Information has been released related to the potential impact of the proposed MX missile system on SUSC. Estimates indicate that by 1989, an additional 1560 students will attend the college because of MX alone. That figure doesn't include United States Air Force staff or their spouses. Estimates apart from MX have indicated that the college could double in size by the 1990s. Combined natural and MX growth could result in an enrollment of around 6,000 students by the 1990s, according to Doug Thompson, SUSC director of public relations. "The impact is going to be significant and broad-based" broad-based" Thompson said. "It could double the size of the college." Is that a smile or gritted teeth?
