SUSC Telethon X raises over $22,000 After surpassing this year's goal and making the highest amount of money ever raised in the event's ten-year history, Telethon X concluded last week at Southern Utah State College with more than $22,000 in pledges. This year's goal for Telethon X, SUSC's annual telephone campaign cam-paign to secure student scholarship funds, was $20,000. Money contributed con-tributed during the fund-raising fund-raising event will go for scholarships to junior and senior students during the 1981-82 school year. "Response from the public was just over whelming," stated Gail Dillard, acting director of development at SUSC. "And with the college facing one of the biggest tuition increases in recent history and a substantial cutback in federal financial aid," she continued, "the enormous amount of money raised through the telethon this year becomes more important than ever." For the first time, all money solicited and secured by faculty members or department representatives during the telethon this year will be channeled directly into that particular department's depart-ment's own scholarship fund. Leading the way among college departments depart-ments was communications com-munications with more than $4150 in pledges. The science department came in with a close second of $3950 and athletics followed in third place with approximately $2660 This year's fund-raiser was conducted over 12 Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from March 24 to April 16 with alumni, students, faculty and friends of SUSC manning twelve telephones each night in the administration building. ,"We certainly ap predate the generosity of those making gifts to the telethon and the time donated by the many volunteers working to make the event a tremendous success," |
