Show Tracksters to meet best Members of the Southern Utah State College track squad will mingle with some of the nation's best this weekend at the Mount San Antonio College Relays at Walnut, California. "We will take all of the members of our team who have met the qualifying standards for that meet," Boyd Adams, SUSC track coach, explains. ex-plains. "That means that probably 11 or 12 of our kids will compete." Making the trip will be twins Aaron and Adrian Sampson (freshmen, Rialto, CA) in the long jump, 24-5 and 24-4 V2 respectively; Joe Wells (senior, Cedar City) in the shot put, 51-10, and possibly the discus and javelin; Bruce Bryan (senior, Apple Valley, CA) in the pole vault, 16-0; 16-0; and Robert Shirts (senior, Cedar City) in the javelin, 237-0. Keenan Hart (junior, Newcastle) will get his only chance of the season to qualify for the NAIA national meet in the 10,000 meter race. Adams is still determining deter-mining which relays to enter. Three are most intriguing to him. If he decides to enter the 4 x 800 relay, Eric Houle (senior Dugway), Derek Lamb (freshman, Or-derville), Or-derville), Russell Eyre (junior, Star Valley, WY), and either Hart or Richard Snow (freshman, (fresh-man, Castledale) will probably make the trip. Also under consideration con-sideration is the 4 x 400 intermediate hurdle relay. SUSC team members in such a race would include Eyre, Kevin Millecam (junior, Greenwich). Also possible is entry in the 110 meter high hurdle shuttle relay. If Adams decides to enter that event, Rick Palmer (senior, Bountiful) Boun-tiful) would join Eyre, Millecam, and Glover. "We are looking at the meet as an opportunity to see some ,very good track and field talent and also as a good mid-season change of pace," Adams says. Last week, the Thun derbirds continued their assault on school records as five' new marks were set. In addition, a whoppin' 21 individual season bests were established in 12 different events. "I feel very good about the performances last week," Adams says. "We are making progress, and each week, it looks like we will be stronger in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conferencemeet." |
