Horseshoes will get underway in the Color Country on May 5. Several new courts on the city park will allow for increased play for area enthusiasts. Horseshoes ringing Horseshoes are a lot more than foot protection for four-footed beasts, they're the "tools of the trade" for a couple of outstanding Cedar City horseshoe pitchers. Dennis and Carol Ohms, Oh-ms, two of the finest pitchers in the Color Country recently placed well in the Hullabaloo Day Tournament held at the California ghost town of Calico. Dennis, a previous winner in classes G, H and T, was entered in class C and wound up capturing second place. Carol finished fifth in the women's division among a number of contestants. The two have been involved, in a number of tournaments throughout the West and have placed well on numerous occasions. oc-casions. Local horseshoe competition has received a shot in the arm from the Ohms' success, along with improvements in Cedar City pitching facilities. Several new pitching courts have been added to the existing ones at the Cedar City Park. The added courts will allow for additional participation par-ticipation in league competition. Horseshoes in Cedar City will kick off May 5 with a meeting at the City Park. A league will be formed with team competition. Each team will consist of three men, women or mixed players. Teams will have handicaps to balance out differences in the abilities of individual players; thus, all interested in-terested pitchers are invited to participate regardless of ability. Interested people can attend the initial meeting at the park at 6 p.m. on May 5 or contact Dennis Ohms 586-9352. |
