Show 240 Attend Annual Dinner-Dance Of Pleasant Grove Chamber Of Commerce; Successful Membership Drive Reported i . 1 Election of the board of directors for the Pleasant Grove Chamber of Commerce took place at the annual dinner-dance held in the high school Saturday night. Holdovers were F. C. Shoell, Karl Banks and Merrill Warnick. Owen Ash, Ertman Chris-tensen Chris-tensen and William Smith were chosen for the two year term, with Hyrum E. Bradley, Vern Cullimore and Calvin Swenson for the one year. William C. Smith acted as toast-master toast-master for the banquet, which was served by Mrs. Iva Carlson of the high school foods department, assisted assist-ed by students of the department. American flags and red, white and blue streamers formed the decorations decora-tions for the tables. Covers were laid for 240 guests (members of the organization and their wives). The theme of the program presented pre-sented during the dinner was "A Greater Pleasant Grove through Democratic Co-operation." Victor Stokes, forest ranger presented pre-sented interesting facts regarding the aims and needs of the local forest for-est service, and asked for the support sup-port of the Chamber of Commerce. Joseph. Day gave the part of the farmers in the building of a greater Pleasant Grove. Ertman Christensen toasted the craftsmen and artisans whose work is so vital a part of a progressing community. Womans place in the making of a more beautiful city was given by Mrs. Genevieve Wright. Merrill N. Warnick in toasting "Our Businessmen" recalled the many abandoned industries which once flourished in Pleasant Grove, and said that if the generation just growing up is to be proud of the town the present generation must help to establish industries and encourage en-courage tourist traffic through advertising. ad-vertising. A financial report of a very successful suc-cessful year was given by treasurer Lyean Johnson. A total of $2,153.81 was taken in. Many contributions to civic groups were made. An unusually un-usually successful membership drive' (totaling 117 members) was made. Greetings from B. H. Adams of the state legislature included the promise that an armory for Pleasant Grove will be available if the town can raise a fund for starting the project. James D. Thorne, former president of the Chamber of Commerce expressed ex-pressed confidence in the future of Pleasant Grove. A token of appreciation in the form of a potted plant was presented present-ed by Clarence Rollins to F. C. Shoell, president of the Chamber of Commerce for the past two years. Musical numbers included an ac- cordion solo by Rulon Brimhall and two vocal solos by Mrs. Hannah Condie Packard, accompanied by Irwin Jensen. Results of the election were announced an-nounced at the dance which followed follow-ed the banquet. Tellers were Harvey Har-vey Smith, Vilace Radmall and Frank Newman. Punch and wafers were sold by a committee of the Band Mothers club including Mrs. Gladys Hilton, Mrs. Pearl Macmillan' and Mrs. Larena Nielson. |
