Show Snow On Water Sheds Ahead Of Last Year Some gratifying reports on snow depth on the Wasatch range were reported for the period ending January Jan-uary 31st as announced by J. Frank Wentz. Vivian West, American Fork canyon forest ranger, reported slightly lower depths but had no camparative data to check back on. However, he reports that we now have in the American Fork canyon district but half the normal supply as of April 1st. Measurements at Trial lake, at the head of the Provo river, elevation 9850 feet, show the snow depth to be 56 inches, as compared with 36 inches last year. The water content was 17 and 11 inches, respectively. The same condition holds good at Daniels canj'on measuring station located at an elevation of 8100 feet. The snow here on January 31 was 35.3 inches deep, as compared with 26.7 inches in 1934 and 45 inches in 1933. The water content was 9.57, 6.95 and 9.80 inches, respectively. The snow depth and water content at the Strawberry valley-Daniels canyon snow course is slightly below average, it is revealed in a report received Saturday by Charles De-Moisy, De-Moisy, Jr., supervisor of the Uinta National forest. The report sent in by Merrill Neilson, ranger, of Heber City, shows that the snow is 35.3 inches deep with a water content of 9.57 inches. This was taken on January 30. One year ago, on the corresponding day, the snow depths was 26.7 and the water content was 6.95 inches. The report made by V. N. West, gives the following figures of snow depth and water content at various points taken January 27th: Mutual Dell, 25 inches with water content of 6.5. Altamont 35 inches with water content of 6.33. Loop Road summit 51.6 inches with water content 12.5. Yankee Mine 51 inches snow. Dutchman FlaU-36 inches! snow. -n |
