Oakland Cal., Apill I'l - An Associated Associ-ated Press correspondent whoanived here last night from Santa Cm reports re-ports that up to noon Thursday lo.I bodies had been taken out of Aguew's state hospital near Santa Clara Of-tidal Of-tidal estimates place the number of Injured Insano patients at 207, and of these thirty were not expected to live. The main building of the hospital collapsed, col-lapsed, pinning many of the patients under fallen wall of debris The padded pad-ded cells had to be broken open and tho more dangerous patients wcro-tled to trees out on the lawn in lieu of a safer place. The doctors and nurses stuck heroically lo their posts and a hundred students fiom Santa Clara college went over In a body lo assist In succoring the wounded. Brother DeMartlnl, In charge of the college Inllrmary, did good work In giving lirst aid to the injured, as did Dr. Oerlache of San .lose, the county physician, who later collapsed. Drs. Sapp and Wright of San Jose are assisting as-sisting the hospital stall. Very little damage was done to the buildings at Santa Clara college, and not one of the students or priests was Injured. |
