Show LIVING IN THE ESCALANTE VALLEY I By Mr. Jack MoyU SCOUTING The Escalante Valley Cub Scout pack meeting held at the Newcastle reservoir was well attended at-tended by cuba and parents of all three dens. A flag ceremony given by Den Chiefs Jack Tullls, Rex Wood and Ray Hunt was very Impressive. After a short meeting, which was directed by Don Applegate, cubmaster, the ideas committee presented Ideas for the May theme, "Cub Scout Fireman." Several games were played, directed di-rected by Bob Reeves, den dad, and Mildred Tullls. den mother, of Newcastle. They with th'ir cubs of Den No. 3 were hosts for the group and topped the evening eve-ning off with a weenie and marshmallow roast. An enjoyable enjoy-able time was had by all. The Boy Scouts of the Escal-ante Escal-ante Valley Troop enjoyed an overnight trip to Culver Spring north of Beryl on Saturday, May 4. While on this trip the boys took their five mile hike. They prepared the meals and took care of the dishes. The accomplishment accomplish-ment of this trip was the passing pass-ing of their second class requirements. require-ments. The PTA meeting for this week was postponed until later In the month. R E A The regular meeting of the R E A was held Monday night. May 6. It was reported by Gordon Gor-don Moyle, president, that the full R E A board, consisting of the following members: Richard Thorley. vice president; Wayne Holt, secretary; Sterling 'Tullls, Tony Alberto, Lorenzo Christen-sen Christen-sen and Ray Hunt, were present. Leon Bowler was reported manager man-ager to take the place of George Clove, while Roca Romero, who took office on May 1. was appointed ap-pointed to care for the books and office work. HERE AND THERE The parents of Marty Wood, Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Leith of Rich-field, Rich-field, visited at the Alex Wood home on Sunday. Dudley Shelley and Mr. Batz of Pomona, Calif., were Sunday visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Smith. Mr. Shelley took care of business while in the Valley. Mr. and Mrs. Lueking of Las Vegas visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Holland on Saturday and Sunday. Mrs. Cordis Qulnn. her moth-er, moth-er, Mrs. Douglas, and Charles Stewart of Vlctorvllle. were In the Valley on Sunday. Mrs. Qulnn and her mother came in from California to attend the wedding of their niece and granddaughter, Gersldlnc; Douglas Doug-las on Saturday night In Cedar City. Bill Bar locker of St George made an emergency landing on the deserted air field in this valley Tuesday because of the heavy rain coming In from the south. Mr. Barlocker had Just flown his new 172 Cessna four-passenger four-passenger plane on his first flight in from Salt Lake to this area. John McGarry of this vl-clnlty vl-clnlty took Mr. Barlocker into Enterprise. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis B. Walters Jr. of Port St Joe, Fla., arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ot-tls Ot-tls Walters on Thursday, May 2, staying until Tuesday. Lewis is a brother of Ottis and the couple cou-ple brought with them the Walters' Wal-ters' boys' mother, Mrs. L. B. Walters, Wal-ters, Jr. Mrs. Walters has spent some time with her son In Florida Flori-da after recently losing her husband. hus-band. She will now make her home with Ottis and family. Carl Holland, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Holland, has returned return-ed to San Diego after spending a short leave at home. Carl Is now aboard a destroyer and ex-pects ex-pects to sail about the middle of May on a seven month cruise to the Far East. Mr. and Mrs. William H. Wood, who are parents of Alex Wood, have spent much time at the Wood ranch northeast of Beryl, have returned from a two weeks trip to the East where they visited vis-ited with their daughter, Mrs. Esther Porter, who Is doing sec-, retary work for the Joint Chief of Staff In the Pentagon at Washington, Wash-ington, D. C. Among those of the various high schools who attended the Junior U. N. at Salt Lake City, were David Stubbs snd Barbara Walters of the Escalante Valley. Mary Moyle and Nora Austin, representing 'the Uvada Stake Primary Board, attended Primary ward conference at Panaca on Sunday night May 5. Others attending at-tending Primary ward conference the same evening at Callente, were Maud Moyle. Violate Fife. Jack and Georgia Moyle. Ludle Hunt, Rose Ann Moyle. Mike Fllnspach and Jack Moyle. Jr., accompanied classmates and leaders, Mrs. Agnes Hunt and Principal G. Gardner Snow of the Enterprise High School to Provo and Salt Lake City on Friday and Saturday. May 3 and 4, on their senior trip. At Provo the group visited the mental hospital, hospi-tal, the Geneva Steel Plant and Brlgham Young University. At the BYU they attended a track meet between the U of U and BYU. The rrouD of 24. while in Salt Lake City, visited the Utah Oil Refining Plant. At the plant they were provided with three guides, making three groups of eight. The students enjoyed this tour of the oil plant very much and were served refreshments and presented with souvenirs from the Utah Oil Company. The seniors enloyed shopping and had a real treat at Lagoon which rave a happy climax to their trio, then returned home for Sunday activities. |
