Show Chukar Brood Stock Wild Plant Outlined for State Chukar partridge brook stock from the state's Price and Sprlng-ville Sprlng-ville game bird farms will be planted in the wild this week end. the department of fish and game said today. Some 20.000 eggs from the 3000 birds to be released are now i.i brooders at the two plants. The brood chukars will be stocked In plants of 150 and 200 birds at 23 chosen sites over the state.' The department said that by releasing the birds while they are still nesting and laying many I young broods of chukars will be raised In the wild this year from these same birds which have al-1 ready produced the necessary! number of eggs to carry on the1 chukar farm program for another an-other year. Upwards of 15.000 young chukars chuk-ars are expected to be raised from the 20.000 eggs now in the brooders, depending on fertility and other factors. About half of these, the maximum maxi-mum number that can be held through the winter months, will be kept at the hatcheries for brood stock and planting as mature ma-ture birds next spring. The balance will be released as young birds in late July and early August into planting sites throughout the state. Winter-spring surveys of wild chukar population show the birds are doing very well in many counties of the state other than the sven where "first" hunts were held last November. |
