Show Porter Leads Broncos To Honors In Southern Division Jim Porter, effective right-hander right-hander for the College of Southern South-ern Utah Broncos, won his fourth consecutive game Wednesday afternoon to put Coach Cleo Petty' Pet-ty' nine Into the southern division divi-sion championship of the inter-mountain inter-mountain Collegl-t? Athletic Conference. Porter posted the win over the Dixie Rebels, al lowing nine hits over the nine Inning stint. The Broncos won 9 to 6. The game accounted for other factors as well. In the first place It avenged the only loss the Broncos have suffered this season, sea-son, and the only loss for Porter as well, and second, It returned to the CSU campus the coveted axe, symbol of rivalry between the two schools. Porter's efforts were well supported sup-ported by his teammates who blasted out 14 hits. Including five for extra bases. Home runs were scored by Nard Sore n son and Jerry Hawley, with Gary Porter and Richard Easton tripling trip-ling in the game. Coach Petty and his crew are now preparing for the I C A C championship clash -with northern north-ern division winners, Northwest Nazarene of Nampa, Idaho. Play-off for the conference championship will be held In Cedar City Saturday, May 11 against NNC. Game time is set for 10 a. m. so as not to interfere inter-fere will the I C A C track meet finals Saturday afternoon. After suffering an opening loss to the Rebels In St. George the Broncos, behind the pitching of Porter, bounced back to score four consecutive wins two over Snow, and one each over Carbon and Dixie, for the title. Dixie was forced out of the running run-ning by the Snow Badgers, who Invaded St. George to hffnd tho Rebels two losses in the only meetings of the two squads this season. |
