Show Cedar Safety Committee at Work on Projects The Cedar City Safety Committee, Com-mittee, headed by Eugene Hardy, lias started a campaign designed design-ed to eliminate traffic hazards within the city and to correct traffic attitudes that it Is felt are contributing much to the accident ac-cident list. Plana were outlined at a meeting held last Thursday Thurs-day evening at which Chief of FoOne A. H. Lambert outlined seae of the problems encountered encoun-tered by the police force. Chief Lambert stated that the police force has Investigated eight more traffic accidents within with-in the city In the first three months of 1957 than were Investigated Inves-tigated in all of 1956. He maintained main-tained that the greatest contrlb-utine contrlb-utine factor, other than Increased traffic and greater speed, is the lack of courtesy on the part of drivers and pedestrians, and the recklessness of drivers. He pointed out that many driv-era driv-era maintain a bad attitude and al&o show very lltle courtesy, tout the drivers do not bear the entire guilt because pedestrians isow an equal lack of courtesy, particularly In the matter of Jaywalking Jay-walking and in the use of pedestrian pedes-trian crosswalks. The committee will attempt to combat this condition through education, and to eliminate haz- ards on the streets, such as poor culverts, poor vision, and congestion con-gestion caused by heavy and in many cases Improper parking. The committee will attempt to arrange or encourage off street parking wherever possible, par-ticularly par-ticularly for the use of people who work in the business district. dis-trict. A suggestion is made that merchants mer-chants provide atractlve rear entrances, en-trances, which would result in more people using offstreet parking park-ing in the center of the blocks and and reaching the stores through rear entrances. Emphasis will also be placed on encouraging drivers to keep their machines in top mechanical mechani-cal condition. Attention Is called tothe fact that all automobiles must be inspected by May 15 to comply with state law. |
