Show Utah Highway Maps Accentuate State's Travel Trend Utah tourist travel got a shot in the arm with the receipt of the official 1960 highway map. The new edition was received by the State Highway Department Depart-ment from the Rand McNally Co. The Chicago firm was the low bidder on a contract for 300,000 copies of the map. The new edition was produced oy the information office of the highway department Because of the demand for maps and to further fur-ther stimulate tourist travel the state increased its order this year. The shipment for 1960 represents rep-resents an increase of 50,000 over the 1959 edition. The new map features on the cover the picturesque view of Logan Lo-gan Canyon with all it fall colors. col-ors. The edition also Includes 13 other photographs reproduced in four processed colors. A message from Governor George D. Clyde states. "With this map, we present pre-sent visitors to Utah with the key to our state both flgur- atively and literally. Figuratively Figurative-ly In that it expresses our warmest warm-est welcome and best wishes for a most pleasant stay in our midst Literally In that It will guide and direct you to some of the most magnificent scenery and recreation spots In the world." The map side has been lithographed litho-graphed in five colors. The base color has been produced In a darker shade of grey resulting In a third dimensional effect for the mountain areas. Some 87 changes have been involved in bringing the map up to date. The seven fold map includes a panel on the point of interests, a box mileage chart, and a detailed map of the Wasatch Front also the future reservoir sites resulting result-ing from the Glen Canyon and the Flaming Gorge dams. New sections of the Interstate High-day High-day system, now completed and In use, are now also shown. |
