Show Top Contenders To Meet in League Playoff Region Ten Baseball Championship Cham-pionship will be decided Friday afternoon in Hurricane when the Redmen of Cedar and the Hurricane Hurri-cane Tigers muet to end league play. Both clubs are undefeated in league play and the winner will be given the region championship champion-ship and the right to enter the state Class B playoffs. Cedar Redmen are the defending defend-ing region champions and they are also the defending state champions and will be favored to repeat the region crown at ! Hurricane Friday. On the basis of 'comparable scores the Redmen have a much better record against mutual opponents in the region. Redmen downed Etrprise High 13 to 5 Thursday afternoon I in Cedar City to move into the final game. Cal Hair was the (winning pitcher. He was on the mound for four innings. Leigh I Rosenberg came in for two in nings of mound duty and Sam Chamberlain finished the seventh sev-enth and final inning. Friday the Redmen went out of the region where they scored a ' pair of victories over tough Basic Ba-sic High of Henderson, Nev. Games were played at Boulder, Nev. and Coach Bruce Decker's Redmen posted 10 to 2 and 18 to 3 wins, over the Nevada Class A ! school. j Steve Cahoon brought home ' top honors from the encounter, 1 blasting out two home runs, lone in each 'game and one a grjmd slammer, plus being credited cred-ited with 12 runs batted in dur- ing the two games. The Region Ten winner, either 1 Cedar or Hurricane, will move automatically into the semi-finals of the state playoffs, by-passing the quarterfinals. Last year the Redmen were required to participate ia the quarterfinals. Should the Redmen win they will host the semi-finals in Ce dar City, but should they advance ad-vance beyond that point, it ls likely that they wU be f orcr , to travel, Coach Decker stated. |
