Show LAW DAT USA V.HEREAS, the rights and indl-vtdual indl-vtdual freedoms which Americans Ameri-cans accept as their birthright are made possible by a government govern-ment of laws and a. system of independent in-dependent courts in which every citizen enjoys equal protections, and, WHEREAS, in today's complex society there Is a particular need for understanding on the part of our citizens of all ages that respect re-spect for law, and acceptance of the principle of the supremacy of the law, Js vital to the public welfare and necessary for the preservation of the Individual liberties li-berties that distinguish our way of life fim totalitarian systems, and, WHEREAS, by proclamations of the President of the United States and by the Governor of Utah, the first of May, 1960, has been designated as LAW DAY USA to emphasize the benefits that every citizen enjoys through law and to focus public attention atten-tion on the efforts now being made, under the leadership of the lesal profession, to extend the rule of law In the Interest of world peace, NOW. THEREFORE. I Mayor of the City of Cedar City, do hwby proclaim Sunday, May 1, 1960, as LAW DAY In our com-munlty, com-munlty, and urge that our churches, schools, civic and fraternal fra-ternal organizations Join in the observance through appropriate programs, the school and other civic observances to take place either on May 2 or on a date proximate to May 1. I also urge that members of the legal profession, pro-fession, and the media of public information, lend their support to th end that this Important event will be made Informative and meaningful for all our citizens.
