Show Broncos Capture Honors at Meet College of Southern Utah track, j and field team garnered .'op hon-1 on in the Juco division of the Brigham Young University Invitational In-vitational meet held Saturday at Provo with four first places and a host of seconds and thirds. Only Mesa College of Grand Junction, Colo., took as many first place honors but on the basis ba-sis of normal team points, the Broncos, were tops in the rieet. Gary Anderson of Cedar City led the Broncos posting two of the four first places and anchoring anchor-ing the 880 yard relay team which also finished in the number num-ber one spot LaMar Shakespeare of the Broncos plckcj up the fourth first place In the shot by barely edging La Framboise of Snow. Gerald Talbot, another consls- tant point getter for the Broncos, picked up a second in the 220 yard dash, was on the winning relay team, but dropped to a third In the century. It Is the first time this season that Anderson An-derson and Talbot haven't run first and second In the sprinting events. Junior College participants In the meet included CSU, Mesa, Ricks College, Dixie, Snow, Carbon Car-bon and Weber. All are members of the Intermountain Collegiate Athletic Conference with the exception ex-ception of Mesa. Weather hampered all events in the meet and no records fell. 'Anderson, who has run the 100 In under 10 seconds all season, was clocked at 10.1 and his time In the 220 was 22.7 seconds. Shakespeare's winning shot put was 42 feet 10 inches. Other Broncos who placed Included In-cluded Gary Matheson who picked pick-ed up a third In the discus and a fifth In the Javelin; Lewis Somers with a third in the pole-vault. pole-vault. Two men placed In the broadjump, they were Bob Bishop Bish-op with a second and Kent Sta-hell Sta-hell close behind with a third place. Also scoring in the pole-vault pole-vault was Wayne Heaton with a fourth place. John Colledge added a third In the two-mile race. Ken Mc-Knight Mc-Knight had a fourth In the Javelin Jave-lin and Dwayne Jackson had a fifth In the 880 yard run. |
