Show City Council Seeks to Acquire Land Near Golf Course for Recreation Site The City Council In meeting on Thursday approved making application ap-plication to the Bureau of Land Management for the purchase of 6-10 acres of land immediately east of the city limits adjacent to the new golf course. The land sought Is that In the area of a natural amphitheatre that offers great possibilities for development develop-ment for recreation purposes. Various groups have proposed development of the area for a number of years but this is the first action taken to secure title ti-tle to the land involved. Consideration was also given the proposal that a small flood control dam be constructed In the canyon east of the golf course to protect the course from floods from the hills In that vicinity. vi-cinity. A new cooperative agreement with Iron County on providing fire protection to property outside out-side the city limits, was approved approv-ed by the council and will be submitted to the Board of County Coun-ty Commissioners at the regular May meeting of the board. ltoss Glass, chief, and Ralph Hanzon, member of the city fire department, were authorized to attend a three-day radiation school at the University of Utah this week. Mayor Anderson announced that the nexi regular meeting of the city council would be held on Wednesday, May 3, instead of the regular date of May 4, so that city officials could attend a special spe-cial municipal league meeting In St George on May 4. |
