Show Building Construction Trends in Iron County I Building constuctlon activity In Iron County was nearly 85 percent above the same period a year ago as the first quarter of 1960 closed, according to figures released Ly the Bureau of Economic Econ-omic and Business Research of the University of Utah. Total construction recorded in the County during the three-month period, excluding public works I and utilities construction, was i valued at $639,600. Iron County's performance can be compared 'with the entire state during the first quarter when $28.9 million worth of construction was started, a 20 percent drop from a year ago. Residential construction in Iron County jumped both in the number of new dwelling units authorized . and their valuation. The 21 ne.v units started this year had a valuation of $265,000, as compared with 10 units for last year valued at $126,600. State-wide residential construction construc-tion fell. Hearly 1,500 new homes were started during the quarter, but this was still 3 per cent below be-low last year's first quarter total. According to the University's Bureau release, construction of non-residential buildings in the County dropped 94.7 per cent to $3,500. Likewise, non-resldentlal building construction In the state as a whole fell 43 per cent from the previous year to a total of $9 million. |
