Show Parent Teachers Convention in. Cedar City Closes The36th annual convention of Utah Congress of . Parents and Teachers came to an end Friday after a most successful three-day fete with more than 500 members mem-bers of P T A organizations throughout the state gathering In ceaar u.iy to participate in the activities. Final acts of the convention, at which accomplishments of education ed-ucation in the past years and problems facing education in general had been thoroughly discussed, dis-cussed, was the election of officers offi-cers and the adoption of a legislative legis-lative program for the coming yar. Mrs. Roscoe A. Grover, Salt Lake City, former Cedar City resident was elected third vice president and Hyrum Smith, also of Salt Lake City, as treasurer. Five regional directors were also elected, as follows: Mrs. Farrel J. Olsen, Salt Lake City, representing repre-senting Region One; Mrs. B. L. Cragun, Ogden, Region Three; Mrs. Hal Schulyz, Helper, Region Five; Mrs. Dode Dennis, Richfield, Rich-field, Region Seven, and Mrs. Arnold Adair, Region Nine. Mrs. Grover has been affiliated with the PTA for the past 18 years, Is a former school teacher teach-er and Is the molher of eight children. She holds two university univer-sity degrees. A legislative program was adopted which provides for increased in-creased efforts to meet costs of education through federal, state and local financing; Improved teacher training In all special fields; Increased aid for vocational voca-tional training, and expanded post-high school education. Also Included were adequate treatment for emotionally disturbed dis-turbed ch'ldren, efforts to prevent pre-vent menc.il, emotional and physical phy-sical Illness In children and youth, and further efforts to encourage en-courage accident prevention pro grams. ' Only opposition to the legislative legisla-tive program was voiced by a small minority of the delegates, present who opposed the Inclusion Inclu-sion of Increased federal aid In and education program of the state. However, the minority was easily overruled. |
