Show Annual Spring Art Exhibit Closes; Termed Successful in All Phases The 20th annual Cedar City Soring Art Exhibit came to a close- Sunday evening after a most successful two weeks showing show-ing successful In every way-wide way-wide range of art and artists, attendance at-tendance and interest, Sunday programs, and finally sales. The closing program featured an illustrated lecture by Richard Sorby, nationally known designer, design-er, presently art instructor at San Jose College, a founer color-adian color-adian and popular exhibitor In the Cedar City event for many years. Earlier programs had in- j eluded a chamber music program pro-gram under the direction of Prof. Roy L. Halversen, and a lecture by B. F. Larson, head of the BYU art department Wide interest in the exhibit was manifest from the opening day to the closing of the show, with young and old visiting In large numbers and many groups enloying guided tours to the exhibit ex-hibit A total of 16 paintings were sold In the area to schools and individuals, a feature of the Cedar Ce-dar City show that has done much to boost It to a position of one of the finest and most popular popu-lar in the West because repeated sales have attracted many fine artists from all part of the country. One of the paintings sold at the exhibit was a portrait of the late Dr. William R. Palmer to hang in the Palmer Museum in the public school administration building. Roman Andrus of Pro-vo Pro-vo was contracted to paint the portrait bv the schools of Iron I County, with a major portion of the cost coming from contribu-j tions from students of all ages. Other paintings sold are listed as follows: "The White Meadow" by Glen Anderson, Cedar City, to the Cedar Ce-dar East Elementary. "The Rain Figs" by Mina Co- nant Denver, Colo., to Ianthus Wright "Desert Beauty," and "Auhumn Glory" by B. Y. Andelin, Ogden, to George Manning and Parowan Elementary School, respectively. "Hih Country" by Olive Gloe, Salt Lake City, to Parowan High School. "Beach Treasure" by Harrison Groutage, Loan. and "Casino. Balboa," by George Post, San Francisco, to college of Southern Utah. "Hop! House," and "Oakland rvks." bv Gaell Lindstrom, Logan, Lo-gan, to George Croft and Pratt j:.iiers. respectively. "Pacific Storm," by Paul Laur-ltz, Laur-ltz, Los Angeles, to Cedar High School. "On the Riviera," by Daniel M. Mendelowitz, Palo Alto, Calif., to Dr. J. 3. Pre Jtwlch. "Flambeau," by Lee Clarke Schuyler, Albuquerque, IT. M, to Cedar Junior High School. "Dance of the Knarled Woods," by Max Weaver, Cedar City, to Cedar South Elementary School. "Canyon Stream," by Milton E. Two other sales will probably be made, but to date the purchasers pur-chasers have not made their final fi-nal selections. |
