Show Union Pacific Makes Increased Scholarship Grant Union Pacific Railroad scholarships schol-arships have been awarded to 298 outstanding young agriculturists agricul-turists during the past year, Joe .W. Jarvls, the road's supervisor of livestock and agriculture, re-'ported re-'ported today. This is the largest: number of grants made in any one year since the program was started in 1921. The Increase was attributed attribut-ed to a raise in the value of the 'scholarships from $100 to $200 late last year. I "Our program is designed to (provide Incentive for a career in which these young people have already expressed serious interest," inter-est," Jarvls stated. "The number of winners who go on o successful success-ful careers in agriculture, indicates indi-cates it is a valuable aid." The scholarships have been given to a total of 8,137 young men and. women. They are awarded annually to one vocational voca-tional agricultural student and one 4-H Club member in each of the counties of the 11 western states served by Union Pacific. |
