Show Cedar City Residents Escape Death In Separate Accidents Three near tragic accidents Involving In-volving six Cedar City young people marred week end activities, activi-ties, according to reports from Cedar City police and the Utah Highway patrol officers. Friday evening at appiuiwl-mately appiuiwl-mately 11:40 an automobile driven driv-en by Ken McKnight failed to negotiate a turn on Highway 14 east of Cedar City and rolled out of control off the highway and down an embankment. Occupants of the car Included Ken McKnight, a younger brother. broth-er. Douglas McKnight, and J. C. Fife. They were taken to the Iron County Hospital where they were treated for cuts, bruises and lacerations lac-erations and are reported In good condition. Investigating officers Indicated that excessive speed was Involved Involv-ed in the accident The three young men were enroute from the canyon and lost control, owing ow-ing to speed, apparently, at the turn at the point of the Red Hill t th enrance of Cedar Canyon. The car skidded and turned a half turn going over the embankment embank-ment backwards. That same evening Jay Smith of Cedar City escaped with only slight Injury when his car overturned over-turned south of St. George on Highway 91. Smith was the only occupant of the car, which was demolished In the accident Sunday morning at 12:45 an automobile driven by Phil Yer-gensen Yer-gensen of Cedar City overturned on Highway 56 Just beyond the turn at "Leigh Hill" near the west limits of the city. Investigating officers Indicated that the Yergensen vehicle and another car were repored racing west on the highway within the city limits and the Yergensen vehicle, In lead started to skid at the turn at the point of the hill, and swerving to the left the vehicle reversed and swerved to the right going off the highway j and coming to rest on Its top. Treated at the Iron County Hospital were Mr. Yergensen and Mary Margaret Moore. Miss Moore was held overnight for observation ob-servation and Mr. Yergensen was treated for cuts around the head and body. He Is reported In good condition. |
