Show Utah Deer Hunting Season Hears, Youth License Law Is Reviewed Utah's big game and upland bird season are Just around the corner with a few real early special spe-cial hunts already about to become be-come history. Many quests are becoming apparent ap-parent to many young hopefuls as they approach the time for Utah's hunts. Classes of Instruction are held In the southern Utah area by citl-zc citl-zc bearing instructor cards. It is indicated that these classes will resume come school time upon request of Interested parents par-ents and youngsters. Conservation officers of the southern region office in Cedar City will act as liaison between students and instructors In coordinating coor-dinating classes. Officers stated that during the summer months instructors have proven difficult; to tear away from their favorite fishing holes and camping trips, but indicated that enthusiasm will be fired anew s the necessity neces-sity requires early this fall. Many questions are also queried quer-ied by many in regard to the law itself. For clarification the law is as follows: License certificate of competency: com-petency: An act providing for a certificate certifi-cate of competency. Be It enacted by Legislature of the State of Utah: Section 1. Hunting License Requirements for those under 21. Certificate of Competency. On and fater April 1, 1960, no hunting hunt-ing license shall be issued to any person under the age of 21 unless un-less he presents to the department depart-ment of fish and game, or one of its authorized license. agents, either (1) satisfactory proof that he has held a resident hunting license Issued by the department of fish and game; or (2) a certificate cer-tificate of competency as provided pro-vided by section 2; or (3) satisfactory satis-factory proof ihat he has successfully success-fully passed a national rifle association as-sociation or reserve officer's training corps gun training course, that he is a serviceman or veteran who has successfully completed basic training, or he has successfully completed other training aqutvalent to that provided pro-vided in section 2 of this act for a certificate of competency. On and after April 1, 1960, all persons per-sons 16 years of age and under, upon applying for any hunting license in this state must present a certificate of competency. Section 2. Instructor's Certificate Certifi-cate Department to give course In fire arm handling Certificate. Certifi-cate. The department of fish and game shall provide a course of instruction in the safe handling of firearms for individuals interested inter-ested in obtaining an Instructor's certificate in the safe handling of fire arms. Certified instructors will, on a voluntary basis and with the cooperation of the fish and game department and Utah Wildlife Federation, give instruction instruc-tion in the course of safe firearm fire-arm handling established by the department of fish and game to all eligible persons who upon the successful completion of said course, shall be issued a certificate certi-ficate of competency in firearms handling. Section 3. Fee. The state fish and game commission shall have ue pCvvct ia y'atciuiisii a xtrc liui to exceed $1.00 to be assessed the individual obtaining instruction in the safe handling of firearms. Section 4. Violation Misdemeanor. Misde-meanor. An agent who Illegally issues a license or a person who receives a license In violation of Section 1 of this act shall be guilty of a misdemeanor. Section 5. Non-resident Exempt Non-residents are exempt from the provision of this act. Approved March 14, 1959. A few misconceptions have arisen in regard to this law Itself. It-self. Conservation officers suggest sug-gest that parts 1, 2 and 3 of Section Sec-tion 1, will answer most of the inquiries. Specifically in this section the statement referring to those young people 16 and under would definitely include all those coming com-ing to this age group under 17 years of age.
