Award Presented To Leigh Furniture at Banquet Recently Leigh Furniture Co., Cedar City, was presented a Certificate Cer-tificate of Distinction in the Furniture Fur-niture Stores category of the 17th Annual Brand Name Retailer-of-the-Year Awards Competition by Brand Names Foundation, sponsors spon-sors of the event, at the Annual Awards Banquet held in the Imperial Im-perial Ballroom of the American Hotel, New York City. Back in 1902, W. H. Leigh continued con-tinued a business which had been started by his grandfather, George Wood. It was a combination combina-tion business . a combination boarding house, general store, and saloon. W. H. Leigh changed the name of the business to Leigh Furniture and began to socialize In furniture and groceries. gro-ceries. Later the grocery portion was abandoned In favor of a complete furniture store. Today there are three stores owned and operated by the founder's family. In commenting on the store's nolicy, Williams S. Leigh, present owner, said, "Since our store's founding, we have specialized In top brand names in both our advertising ad-vertising and merchandising areas of operation. Brand named are featured throughout every phase of our operation." William S. Leigh received his early training In the retail furniture furni-ture business from his father, W. H. Leigh. He has also been affiliated affil-iated with William Volker and Co., Los Angeles, and Doernbeck-er Doernbeck-er Ml. Co., Portland, Oregon.
