Show Zion-Mount Carmel Road Closed For Truck Traffic The Zion-Mount Carmel road through Zion National Park will , be seasonally closed to conimer- I cial trucking effective June 1 j through Sept. 30, according to Superintendent Frank R. Ober-hansley. Ober-hansley. This is the sixth summer sum-mer the road has been closed to commercial trucks, in accordance with regulations published in the Federal Register, August 28, 1959. These regulations permit the passage through Zion National Park of vehicles owned by local ranchers, pick-ups, station wagons, wago-ns, panel wagons; those vehicle carrying Park visitors, or delivering deliver-ing or receiving supplies in the Park or for use by contractors authorized to operate In the Park. Vehicles owned by the Federal, State, or County Government will be permitted over the Park roads when used in connection with official of-ficial operations. Construction of the Hurricane to Fredonia Highway is continuing continu-ing and will eventually provide a paved alternate route for trucks to by-pass the Park. Mr. Ober-hansley Ober-hansley said that trucks will be permitted through the Park again next fall after the season of. heavy travel or on the occasions State Highway 14 is closed to I traffic due to emergencies.
