Show AAUW Presented A Certificate For ! Membership Increase A certificate designating the Cedar City Branch as the club with t ii i largest increase in mem. bership during the past year, was presented at the covention of the American Association of University Uni-versity Women held early this month in Salt Lake City. On hand to receive the award was Mrs. George LeBaron, newly elected president of the Cedar City Branch, who was in attendance attend-ance at the confab. Also in attendance was Mrs. M. F. Burgees, who will serve for the next two years as a member Of the Stafn I'rra.ram ,.,,.-,,itt., of the AAUW. Mrs. Burgess is the first member mem-ber of the AAUW south of Utah County to win an appointment on a state level, Mrs. LeBaron pointed out. Convention sessions were held on the campus of the University of Utah and the certificate of achievement was presented at the Assn. Luncheon. During the year, under the leadership of Mrs. Robert McCar.non, the Cedar City Branch grew from a membership of 30 to 42 at the time of the state-wide gathering. Purpose of the convention was to present items of study that will be undertaken during the course of the year including education, ed-ucation, study of the Orient, Law and the Citizen and Science, a Creative Disipline. The AAUW unit also announced announc-ed that as a project for the past year the branch had made a contribution con-tribution of $91.50 to the Southern South-ern Utah Library Foundation. The presentation of the cash contribution con-tribution was made to E. T. Mar-chant, Mar-chant, chairman. j Each year, it was pointed out, itho Branch takes on a project In keeping with the AAUW object- ' ive, which is to further education. I Projects have been in the form of scholastic scholarships to the College of Southern Utah, and contributions, such as that presented pre-sented this year to the library foundation.
