Show Book Cost Increase Problem Presented To High School PTA A special meeting of the Parowan Paro-wan High School PTA with school officials was held during the week for the purpose of discussing discuss-ing the rising cost of books for the use of students, according to Principal Bruce Decker. Present to represent the school district was Dr. Joe Reidhead, assistant superintendent of Iron County ! Schools. Different methods of meeting this problem was discussed by those present. Some felt it might be advisable to have a book store at the school where books could be purchased by the students, stu-dents, but the idea was rejected. It was decided to increase the tuition charge at the beginning of next school year, with the $5 increase to cover the cost of books. Principal Decker states that the county school district has been operating in the red as far as purchase of books Is concerned. con-cerned. There has been a $5.00 a year book rental fee during the past several years, and starting in the fall at the opening of the 1965-66 1965-66 school year this fee will be raised to $10. if the school board approves of the idea. Dr. Reidhead Reid-head will take this suggestion back to the school board for Its action. Principal Decker also announced announc-ed a change in curriculum beginning be-ginning with school this fall. The change will be In the field of Vocational Vo-cational Education. New classes will be open in four fields, as follows: 1. A Distributing Education course, to aid In marketing, retailing re-tailing and advertising. 2. Office Practice, practical experience ex-perience In typing, bookkeeping, and secretarial training. 3. Agr Business, to give experience exper-ience in jobs relatinng to agriculture agri-culture but r t farming. 4. Trades and Industries; this will be "rpentry. Each of these classes will be two hour classes, requiring one In the classroom and one hour on the Job training. |
