Show Thunderblrds Enter Chaffey BB Tournament; Jaycee Eligibility Problems Hit CSU Squad College of Southern Utah Thun-derbirds Thun-derbirds left early Tuesday morning for Ontario, California where they will enter the annual Chaffey Invitational tournament opening on Wednesday. The T-Birds were slated to open the tournament Wednesday at 9:30 a: m. against San Bernardino Ber-nardino and will remain In the Invitational as long as they keep winning. Coach Boyd Adams' crew will be assured of at least two games in the 16-team event which has both a championship and a consolation con-solation bracket. Prior to leaving on the trip, Coach Adams announced that guard Hank Kalveraon, was dropped drop-ped from the squad following a meeting of the Intermountain Collegiate Athletic Conference meeting over the week end in Salt Lake City. A strict eligibility clause of the National Junior College Athletic Ath-letic Association, which requires a three-quarter waiting period for any student transfering from any college to a Junior college, is necessary. The ICAC was informed inform-ed by the NJCAA at the winter meeting that any team with such ineligible players would forfeit I the right to advance into the NJCAA playoff series at the end of the basketball season. Halverson is a transfer from Nevada Southern at Las Vegas, Nev., and his continued participation partici-pation would disqualify the team from post season play, Coach Adams stated. "It's an unfortunate situation," the coach stated, "that has caught Halverson in the middle. He has shown a lot of promise in early games this year with steady improvement As a squad we will miss Halverson," he continued. The CSU Thunderblrds, how-ever, how-ever, have only on man in this status. Snow and DM Colleges particularly will have to drop as high as four men to remain eligible. |
