Show Runway Realignment. Extension Planned; Others Matters Considered February 5, was the date set by the Cedar City Council for an election to determine whether or not citizens of the community want to approve $100,000 in general gen-eral obligation bonds for im-provements im-provements at the Cedar City Airport. A bonding ordinance was approved ap-proved at the meeting of the City Council Thursday evening and the Edward L. Burton Co. of Salt Lake City was appointed as bonding agent. Mayor Gardner pointed out that the funds would be added to funds approved by the Federal Aviation Agency and the Utah Aeronautical Commission to realign re-align and lengthen the present north-south runway at the airport air-port to allow for greater use and to eliminate a present hazard -to the south. Under the proposed program ' the runway would be shifted 15 degrees to the west on the south end of the runway to eliminate the hazard of the mountains immediately im-mediately to the south. The runway run-way would also be extended to 6000 feet, which would allow Jet landings at the airport The cost of realignment and extension was comparable to repair re-pair work and extension of the present runway, Mayor Kumen Gardner stated. In other action of the council a lease agreement with the American Legion Post No. 76 on the race track south of Cedar City was cancelled. The lease had been written originally original-ly for 99 years. Other active or-ganizations or-ganizations have expressed an interest In the facilities including includ-ing improvements and staging of events, the Mayor stated. Grailng Within City Cedar City attorney was instructed in-structed by the council to investigate in-vestigate the possibility of allowing al-lowing grazing of animals In certain areas of the city where it it presently feasible. Under the present ordinance no allowance is made for grazing of any kind within the city limits. The May-or May-or stated that consideration in some areas is possible if proper ordinancing can be arranged. The council also spent some time discussing the city street oiling program and hearing a request re-quest for street oiling from a de-lcgatlon-of property- owners' on North Highland drive. No action was taken, however. |
