ALBENA CURB Paying tribute and honor to Mrs. Albena Gurr on her 80th I birthday Monday were about 80 callers who stopped in between 2:00 and 5:00 p. m. at Mrs. Gurr's home In Cedar City. Mrs. Gurr has resided in Cedar , City for the past five years but; has been a life-long resident of Iron County, having lived in Par-owan Par-owan with her husband W. J. Gurr until his death seven years sgo. Helping Albena celebrate her 80th birthday anniversary was her daughter, Mina, (Mrs. Ivan Orton) who made arrangements for the open house to be held. Mlna is one of Albena's five living liv-ing children. LaVerl Gurr of Salt Lake City. Elvlu, of Los Angeles and Errold Gurr of St Louis, Mo. v.tre unable to attend at-tend the Open House celebration. Also sending happy birthday greetings from out of town was Mrs. Gurr's daughter, Afton Jean Booth, who resides In Boise, Ida. The honored lady is well known In the southern Utah area having served at one time or another in every branch of the LDS Church, Including MIA, Prl-mary. Prl-mary. Sunday School and Relief Society. She is still very active in the Relief Society organization. She is a long time member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and served the county D. U. P. as secretary for six years. Mrs. Gurr and her family are proud of the fact that she raised two grandchildren grand-children tnow serving in branches branch-es of the U. S. Army) after she was 65 years of age. In addition to other noted characteristics, Mrs. Gurr is especially known for the hand work she does for her many friends. |
